DESCRIPTION:The Chevy Chase Historical Society (CCHS) will present its
  25th Anniversary Spring Program on May 16\, 7\:30 p.m. at the Chevy C
 hase Village Hall\, 5906 Connecticut Avenue\, Chevy Chase. William Off
 utt\, the teacher and author of Bethesda - A Social History\, will be 
 the speaker. Mr. Offutt's topic will be the "Pre-History of Chevy Chas
 e." He will tell us about the time before Chevy Chase was established\
 , including descriptions of the original settlers\, the farms\, the ag
 ricultural economy and major events such as the War of 1812 and the Ci
 vil War. Finally\, he will review how the advent of railroads and trol
 leys set the stage for one of the first planned suburbs in the United 
 States\, Chevy Chase. The public is invited to the program\, which wil
 l begin at 8\:00 p.m. A short business meeting will precede the progra
 m. Light refreshments will be served previous to the meeting.
