Self-Defense Course for Women
Three hour Self-Defense course for women, given by Officer Oglesby.
Dear Resident,
At the October Council meeting Officer Sabrina Oglesby, a Maryland-National Capital Park Policewoman, gave a talk about safety in the neighborhood and home. She gave some specific suggestions about what residents can do to make their homes and neighborhood safer. Some of her suggestions were:
- People should travel (walk, jog, cycle) in groups;
- People should make eye contact with other people who are approaching them; and
- As a last resort people should act like a lunatic (talk to oneself, zig-zag, etc.).
The latter action may seem strange, but it has been proven to work. Even criminals are put off by crazy behavior.
After the speech some residents asked if Officer Oglesby would give a course in self-defense for women. Officer Oglesby agreed and the Council has engaged a room for the talk.
