Donations, Trash and Recycling

Help your D.C. area neighbors in need. A Wider Circle promotes "a unique, holistic approach to ending poverty".

HOUSEHOLD TRASH: Normal everyday household trash that will fit in covered trash cans is picked up at the rear/side of a resident’s house each TUESDAY and FRIDAY. Containers kept in garages must be placed outdoors by 7:00 AM for collection that day. Please do not put household trash containers or trash bags on the curb or parking strip. Please wrap all broken glass and label it as such. If a holiday, such as Christmas, falls on a trash day, there will be only one trash collection that week. See the list, below, of holidays when recycling/trash is not collected.

YARD TRASH: Normal yard trash including cuttings, lawn and hedge clippings, leaves and other rakings, should be placed in paper bags and placed at curbside each MONDAY. Sticks and tree trimmings (not to exceed four feet in length or three inches in diameter) must be tied in bundles and placed at curbside for pickup on MONDAY.

MISSED PICKUP: To report a missed pick-up or to request a private special pick-up, contact the manager.

Every spring and fall, usually in May and November, we have a bulk trash pick-up. The day and date are announced well in advance of the pick-up. Items for collection must be placed at the curb no more than one day in advance of collection.

Bulk Trash items include: washing machines, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, furniture, large toys, bicycles, swing sets.

Paints other than oil-based will also be accepted. You must remove the lid of the paint container so the paint dries before pick-up day, i.e. the paint must be hardened in the container.

Excluded are: large tree stumps, large tree limbs, wood piles, poisons, acids, caustics, explosives and ammunition, flamable liquids, motor vehicles and parts including batteries, and tires, bricks and general construction material, oil, large rocks, dead animals, human or animal feces.

Place glass and metal containers as well as plastic milk containers in the green plastic recycling box (provided by the Section) at curbside by 7:00 AM MONDAY. Mixed paper and newspapers should be placed in the blue bin (provided by the Section) and placed at curbside on MONDAY. See the list, below, of holidays when recycling/trash is not collected.

Still uncertain about what is recyclable and what is trash? Read Montgomery County's recycling handbook and know all.

When a holiday listed below falls on TUESDAY or FRIDAY, trash will NOT be collected the next day because Section 5 has two household trash collection days.

When a holiday listed below falls on MONDAY, recyclables will be collected the following WEDNESDAY.

Our trash hauler, Montgomery County Sanitation and Recycling, Inc., recognizes the following six official holidays, on which trash and recyclables are not collected:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Martin Luther King's Birthday is not one of the official holidays; however, it is always celebrated on a MONDAY and because the County recycling center is closed on King's birthday, recyclables will be collected the following WEDNESDAY.
