About Section 5
Section 5 of the Village of Chevy Chase was founded in 1922 as a special taxing district and became an incorporated municipality in 1982.
Section 5 of the Village of Chevy Chase became an incorporated municipality on June 25, 1982. The Section contains 225 private homes and a restaurant. There are maps of the boundaries of the Section and its interior streets in the Maps folder.
The section is administered by an elected five-member Village Council, members of which are elected for two (2) year terms of office. Elections take place in the spring at our annual meeting. There is also one paid half-time employee, the Section Manager. The Manager acts as a liaison between the Council and residents.
In general, the Village Council is responsible for enforcing the Section 5 Charter and for maintaining the community in proper order (street and side-walk maintenance, snow removal, the trimming and feeding of trees on Section property, trash collections, lawn and yard refuse collection, street lighting, traffic signs, etc.).
Village Council meetings are open to all residents and property owners. They are held at Chevy Chase Village Hall, 5906 Connecticut Avenue on the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August. The meetings convene at 7:30 PM. The agenda for each meeting is mailed to all residents with a monthly newsletter.
